‘Meditating Hung Over’ tells the story of a modern man’s personal journey into and beyond traditional forms of meditation and relaxation. It is an exploration of meditation and mindfulness written for the modern American man, bringing thousands of years of eastern philosophy squarely into the modern garage of our male minds.
After the author leaves his job, he finds himself home with his dog, unreliable cable and a pointless job search. Following his wife’s advice, he begins an often fruitless search for inner peace in the midst of a global recession. He tries different forms of yoga and meditation all with without success.
One morning, after an evening of drinking and overeating with his friends,he has a hung over vision of a new kind of meditation perfectly suited for him. He hears a man buddha inside of him that helps him realize why he has been having such trouble locating his center. He is bored.
He realizes that what he has been studying emphasizes a concept called mindfulness, being fully aware of the world around you, whatever it is. He discovers a new kind of meditation that focuses upon manfullness. Manfullness celebrates all great things male.
He enters into a quest to meditate on just the best things about being a man in this world that we live in. He spends the next months studying the subjects that mean most to him, sports, alcohol and women just to name a few. Eventually he finds himself exploring the meaning of family, parents and finally life itself as his work progresses. And just as important, his wife loves him all the more for the inner adventure.
Part personal guide and part reflection on life, this is a “semi-fictional” journey about finding peace in our lives as men in these strange times.
